01 - About Us

Our history with clarens.

My sister and I first came to know Clarens as little children when our grand parents, Russel and Nellie Diederich retired there. At the time Clarens was a little village with a small cafe and a garage at the entrance to the village. We spent a number of weekends visiting and exploring the mountain trails and river beds and even playing in snow on those few occasions when Clarens was white and cold.

As a varsity student I brought my boyfriend to visit Clarens and together we explored the trails around Golden Gate as well as exploring the mountains in Clarens. These were such special times when we sat around the fire and listened to stories from the past, told by my grandparents.

When we became young parents, our children were lucky enough to get to know their great grandparents and spend time with them while being regailled with stories about the "witches house" up the road, by my grandfather who was in his element when telling stories.

When the opportunity presented itself to buy Kahara Maluti, we jumped at it. We are grandparents ourselves now, and so our grandchildren are able to visit this little gem of a village, which is so much more developed now than when we were children but still holds such magic for them.
